A Craig County tradition that began in the early 1900’s, the fairgrounds has hosted Craig County Agricultural Fairs, Miss Craig County pageants, carnivals, livestock shows and many numerous family events. For years owned by local citizens – stockholders– it is now owned by the Craig County IDA and leased to the Fairgrounds Association who donate profits to the Field of Dreams project.
In recent years, hardworking volunteers have cleaned up the property by either tearing down or renovating old structures to provide for safe and modern use of the grounds. The seven acres boasts a ball diamond, horse-riding ring, a demolition derby area, and a performing arts stage complete with dressing rooms and concrete dance pad. There are also three modern food service facilities.
The Fairgrounds are located off of Route 311 (Salem Ave.) and Kanawha Street in New Castle, VA 24127. If you are coming from the Roanoke area, the Fairgrounds will be the 2nd right once entering town, turn by the old JC Depot onto Kanawha Street
The Fairgrounds can be leased from the Association for $150 /day.
Current president is Bill Frazier. New members are always welcome!
